Hi all! I am Lisa Beach and I graduated in 2010 from Lees-McRae College with a BS in Elementary Education. I chose to pursue a MA in Reading because I feel that reading is at the core of the curriculum, and providing students with a strong foundation in reading will set them up for success in school and beyond. I am currently enrolled in two classes, and am very excited to graduate in May upon completion of the Product of Learning.

Since my graduation I have been employed as a substitute teacher for Burke County Schools. Of course I would prefer to have my own classroom, but I make the most out of my time as a substitute. When I go into a classroom I like to look for ideas on management, activities, bulletin boards, or anything else that may attract my attention. I am currently filling a long-term substitute position as a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant at Glen Alpine Elementary. I hope to keep that position for the remainder of the year, but we’ll see! 🙂

I currently live in Morganton with my wonderful husband of eight years, Daniel. We love living in Burke County, and we have no desire to move. We are very active in our community, as we are both volunteer firefighters (although I do not actually fight fire). My duties at the fire department include completing documentation, ensuring that the chief’s orders are carried out, and releasing information to the public.

When I am not teaching, attending classes, or at the fire department, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love to organize parties and small get-togethers, and I am always making up an excuse to plan an event. I also enjoy driving through the mountains, swimming, and fishing, but my favorite thing to do is….sleep! Sleep is something that I am sure we could all use a little more of, so whenever I get a chance, I like to get in a few extra minutes.

As I said before, I am very excited to be finishing up my MA, and I am looking forward to working with all of you online.
